The 6th graders have been working hard the last 2 weeks on our newest S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) project–The Roller Coaster Rally! Students are working together in groups of 4-6 to create a roller coaster out of only the supplies given in their supply kit. The project has a total of 9 phases, in which students work through at their own pace. The phases involve design, research, graphing, data analysis, building, measuring, and a design improvement plan and implementation. This week all of the groups are in Phase 5, the construction phase. Their roller coasters are coming along really nicely! Take a look at some of the designs so far. Stay tuned for updates on the roller coaster with the fastest average speed, which students will calculate at the end of Phase 6.
